This is my second DOTA ring and I think it’s my favorite.
It was inspired by Ring of Basilius, given as a reward to the greatest mages.
I chose minimalistic look, and not embed fancy swirly, so it can be worn more subtly.
The colors came out great.

[Edit: print poses and items!]
Basics:
I recently 3D printed a Faceless Void in color. It came out super nice. I have a mini-tutorial for 3D printing non-colored DOTA heroes, but someone asked me how to print the colored version.
Here you go!
I used Sculpteo to handle my 3D printing. Once I packaged my model, I handled to them, and a few weeks later, they shipped me a tiny Faceless Void. With Sculpteo, shipping is $6 when the order is over $50. They usually print super fast (almost 3-day turnaround) so my delay was probably a special case. My Faceless Void cost about $18, and measured 1.9 x 2.1 x 1.1 inches (price scales with size). There’s a slew of other services available, as well as the possibility of using an at-home 3D printer, but I really like Sculpteo.
Press M to texture the hero. Click on a white sphere, and click on the box next to Diffuse. This will bring up the Material/Map Browser. Clicking on Bitmap, and browse for one of the TGA textures. Drag and drop that texture on to the corresponding component to color the Hero. Hopefully all the mapping are correct and the Hero will look like it popped right out of DOTA2.
Sometimes the mapping isn’t correct and it’s a pain to fix (like Faceless Void’s mace).
Good luck!
Man, it’s been I while since I last posted.
I just haven’t had the time to doodle the happenings.
Today, I found a surprise package in the mail (love!).
Back when I made pants for peppermints, I decided try out the 3D-printing in full color. I had a wee bit of Sculpteo credits left, so I added a Faceless Void to the order. I totally forgot about him until today.
Oh man is he sweet.
He stands a couple inches tall, fully colored, with super sharp details.
He’s so pretty! I’m really impressed by today’s 3D printing capabilities!
I think I’m going to give this figurine to Dan, one of my friends that I played DOTA with. Faceless Void is his favorite character.
I might post a tutorial if folks want to print their own. It’s not too different from printing a uncolored version, like my Mini-Furion.
I just can’t stop listening to the Rihanna song, after hearing it in a movie I saw this weekend: Wreck-It Ralph.
Wreck-It Ralph was all sorts of awesome. It tickled me with hours of delectable video game references and the blast-from-the-past cameos. I was dying from the Browser and Sonic cameos.
My favorite character has to be Calhoun. How can anyone not love her, with that sassy voice of Sue Sylvester? She’s just one dynamite gal.
I’m also in love with Skrillex “Bug Hunt” track. It’s exactly my type of music.
Other notable awesomeness were the detail of the animation. I read an article about the subtleties of King Candy’s walk animation, about how his feet twirl like wheels, and how his hands “shift gears”. Amazing!
Wreck-It Ralph was a really good time. I think I’ll enjoy it more as time goes on, when it becomes “old but cool.”
Today I randomed Ursa. It was sad. Got devoured by Night Stalker.
Visio is my January game for One Game a Month. It features uncovering invisible wizards.
One Game a Month is like a yearlong game jam, where people make a game a month. I first heard about this through my roomie Tom, who convinced me to spend my time in other pursuits than DOTA. For January, my “other than DOTA” pursuit resulted in Visio.
Inspired by January’s optional theme, Portcullis, I originally wanted to make a game about a man-eating castle, with a portcullis for a mouth. Unsuspecting travelers would journey to the castle, only to be gobbled up. Wizards, however, gave the castle upset stomach, so they had to be kept out.
This idea eventually morphed in various forms, ending in Visio‘s Queen’s banning wizards from entering the castle.

This week’s free hero rotation has Teemo!
He’s just all around adorable.
I played him for the first time yesterday and fared slightly better than I did with Vlad.
I’m looking forward to playing Amumu, the sad mummy.
He looks so sad! All I want to do is hug him, and cheer him up!
You don’t get this cute of characters in DOTA.
