My coworkers and I went to Kereita Forest a couple of weeks ago.
We went on a scenic hike and were pleasantly surprised by a beautiful waterfall.
I also went ziplining for the first time, flying over tree tops and gorges. It was terrific!

I’m taking a Swahili class and it’s awesome!
In particular, I’m loving the bits about linguistics. I’m really enjoying all the classifications of sounds and phonemes, especially “ng” (ŋ) and “ny” (ɳ).
These two sounds are challenging for me so I’m doing a lot of practice. Turns out ŋ is in English too, so this is definitely helping me distinguish “thin” from “thing”.
Recently, we’ve been talking a lot about video games with our friends. It reminded me 11 years ago I made a game for the Nintendo DS Lite.
I don’t have any of the assets anymore except for these two screenshots:
It was neat to learn about all DS Lite hardware and thinking about processors and CPUs. Reminds me a little of Android development.
My last trip to Kenya, I didn’t think the internet was good enough for competitive phone games.
I was wrong.
I’ve been playing a lot of phone DOTA at night.
I started playing Pokémon Go again to see what kind of Poké Stops are in Kisumu (they’re mostly churches).
I went to my first raid where the reward was a disappointing zubat.
Harry mentioned zubats are actually great for malaria mosquitoes.
… >____>
We played a game that’s very similar to Pachisi.
The coolest part was the rectangular dice. You only roll them around one axis.
I totally need to check out other dice variants.
Harry and I saw a mushroom plushie that reminded us of Sir Rice’s drawings.
Harry said it would be more “Sir Rice” if it had brains.
I visited Harry Potter World and it was magical!
I ran into Erek and his team there, and we all rode the Forbidden Journey ride together.
The ride’s video technology created a realistic flying experience. It was really neat!
I tried some butter beer. It tasted like a butterscotch root beer float. I’m not sure how I feel about it.
The night ended with awesome songs from the frog choir. All the singers were great!
I’d been attending a lot of Ricky and Morty events recently.
When the Rickmobile stopped in San Jose, I got up real early to check it out.
There was a massive line to buy merchandise, but luckly no line to take photos. I was surprised by the turnout.
One local bar also hosted a Rick and Morty viewing party for the season premier.
They had show inspired drinks and McNuggets with Mulan sauce.
I don’t know if the sauce was the real deal, but it was incredibly popular among the guests. I only got to sample the dregs but it tasted like General Tso’s. I wasn’t impressed.
All these Rick and Morty themed events were fun. I’d definitely go to more, if they happen.
I went to a Giants game.
I’d never liked baseball very much, but this outing was actually super fun.
The stadium had delightful Americana foods like hot dogs, fries, and bubble tea.
The game was excitingly close. The Giants were down until Posey stepped up to hit a home run. The crowd went wild.
It was a charming summer event.
